Itinerary (Day Wise)
The Hampta Pass Trek is a dream route for every mountain lover- one trail, two completely different worlds. Starting from the lush green forests of Jobra and Chika, the trek gently pulls you into wide alpine meadows, icy water crossings, and glacier-carved valleys. As you climb toward Balu Ka Ghera and the 14,100 ft Hampta Pass, the scenery flips from the vibrant Kullu Valley to the stark, dramatic Lahaul–Spiti side—one of the most stunning landscape transitions in the Himalayas. Descending to Shea Goru and finally reaching Chatru completes this perfect blend of adventure, altitude, and raw Himalayan beauty.
Day 1
Manali – Jobra - Chika (Drive 19km- 1hr/ Trek 3km)
The day begins in Manali early in the morning with a scenic drive of about 16–20 km (1–1.5 hours) towards Jobra, passing through Prini village, 40 sharp hairpin bends, and a beautiful forest road lined with pine, maple, and walnut trees. The road ends at Jobra, which is the official starting point of the Hampta Pass Trek. After a short briefing and repacking your day bag, start the easy 3 km trek towards Chika, which takes around 1.5–2 hours. The trail passes through lush forest sections and opens into a wide valley with the beautiful Rani Nallah flowing alongside. Upon reaching Chika, settle into the campsite and enjoy the serene surroundings for the night.
Day 2
Chika - Jwara - Balu Ka Ghera (9 km)
Early in the morning, begin your trek from Chika towards Jwara and onward to Balu Ka Ghera, covering a distance of about 9 km. The trail takes you across the flowing Rani Nallah and through the lush meadows of Jwara, offering massive valley views and stunning landscapes throughout the climb. As you gain altitude and approach nearly 11,000 ft, the terrain becomes a mix of boulders, river crossings, and open grasslands. Balu Ka Ghera serves as the base camp for the next day’s Hampta Pass crossing and is a beautiful sandy riverbank campsite surrounded by towering mountains and serene natural beauty. Overnight stay at Balu Ka Ghera.
Day 3
Balu ka Ghera - Hampta Pass - Shea Goru (8–9 km)
In the morning after breakfast, begin the challenging trek from Balu ka Ghera towards Hampta Pass, covering around 8–9 km. The trail starts with a steep ascent over rocky terrain, and for the first 6 hours, you continuously climb, gaining significant height while enjoying breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks and the dramatic Lahaul valley. As you approach the top, the landscape begins to change from the green slopes of the Kullu valley to the brown and white barren mountains of Lahaul. Upon reaching the Hampta Pass summit, you can clearly see the Kullu Valley on the right and the Lahaul Valley on the left, offering an unforgettable crossover view. After spending some time at the pass, begin the 3-hour descent toward the campsite at Shea Goru, where you will spend the night surrounded by cold desert landscapes and tranquil mountain views.
Day 4
Shea Goru – Chatru (Lahaul) – Manali – (Trek 5 km)
In the morning, begin your descent from Shea Goru towards Chatru, trekking 5–6 km through a downhill, rocky terrain. As you move forward, the green landscapes slowly fade, and you enter the stark, barren, cold desert region of Lahaul–Spiti. The trail offers dramatic views of rugged mountains and glacial streams before you finally reach the roadside settlement of Chatru. From Chatru, board your vehicle for the drive back to Manali, traveling through scenic valleys and the Atal Tunnel, and get dropped at your designated location in Manali.
Optional - trek Chandratal Trek needs 2 more days.
