Itinerary (Day Wise)

Begin your journey with arrival and check-in at Chopta, a serene hill destination nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas. On Day 2, embark on the scenic trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, and further to Chandrashila Peak for breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-clad Himalayan ranges. On Day 3, after a peaceful stay amidst nature, check out and depart with unforgettable memories of adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty.

Day 1

Dehradun – Chopta (250 Kms approx.)

Upon arrival, you will be provided assisted pick up followed by a drive to Chopta. The journey takes through the picturesque Ganga and Alaknanda valleys, offering stunning views of Devprayag—the sacred confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers. En route, pay homage at the Dhari Devi temple near Srinagar. Witness the confluence of Alaknanda & Mandakini via driving through Rudraprayag. If time allows, visit the Omkareshwar Temple at Ukhimath, its winter seat of Kedarnath Ji Mahadev. Arrive at Chopta and check in to your hotel, homestay, or camp. Take a leisurely walk around your stay to explore cozy Chopta Meadows and to witness the Panoramic views of Kedarnath & Chaukhamba peaks, followed by a cozy bonfire with music and local folk tales. Dinner and overnight stay included.

Food: After arriving in Chopta, experience the delicious flavors of Garhwal Cuisine at Chopta homestays, famous for its authentic Garhwal dishes: Chainsoo, Saag, Kafuli, Aloo Jakhya & Jhangore ki Kheer, perfect to experience the Garhwali Cuisine. Try traditional Garhwali/Kumaoni dishes: Baadi (roasted urad flour dough), Dubuk (spiced dal), Arsa/Aarse (crispy sesame-jaggery fritters)


Shopping: Move to Local Markets and enjoy shopping for local specialties that offer:

  • Woollens & Handlooms: Sweaters, Shawls, and woolen caps and gloves made by local artisans.
  • Local Snacks: Dry fruits, salted/spiced potatoes, Jams, organic pulses, Organic Honey
  • Handicrafts & Local Specialties: Pahadi Namak, Pickles, Ragi Flour, Pahadi Pulses, Small wooden crafts, Prayer beads, Seasonal fruits, i.e., apples, oranges, Pear, etc.


Activities:

  • Short walks / photo-stops at Devprayag (confluence), Rudraprayag, Srinagar (near Ukhimath).
  • Visiting small temples: Dhari Devi Temple, Omkareshwar Temple, etc.
  • Leisurely walk in Chopta meadows in the evening. Nature walks, bird watching (flora & fauna).
  • Interact with local people/homestay hosts – learn about local farming, herding, and food growing.
  • Local market visit & Shopping.
  • Local folk music, or storytelling by bonfire at camps.

Day 2

Chopta – Tungnath/ Chandrashilla trek – Chopta (Trek 5 Km one way)

             

Post breakfast, start the Tungnath trek through dense forest and enticing meadows. It is a 3.5 Km trek. Tungnath is situated at a height of 3680 m above sea level. After resting for a while, you can head for (moonstone) Chandrashilla peak, which is 1.5 km ahead. The summit offers a 360-degree view of the surroundings & magnificent wide snow-capped Himalayan views of Nanda Devi Peak, Trishul Peak, Chaukhambha, and Kedar Dome. Can have a leisurely short village walk to see traditional Garhwali homes & forest trails for birdwatching. Return into camp/h/resort and can enjoy stargazing at night as Chopta is known for clear skies. Overnight stay. (Breakfast & Dinner included)


Experiences:

Food: On your 2nd day, dive deeper into exploring the authentic local Garhwali Cuisine. Try Local Seasonal Vegetables with Parantha, Ragi Roti with Ghee, and Pahadi assorted salt in your breakfast. During trek and near temple, try Pahadi Maggie, tea, Parathas at small local Tea-stalls & Dhabas. In the evening must try the delicious Garhwali authentic Thali, Stew-type dishes, and curries for a never-forgetting experience.


Shopping: Move to Local Markets near temples and enjoy shopping for local specialties that offer:

  • Religious offerings: Rudrakshas, small bells, paintings & wooden idols made by local artisans.
  • Prayer Flags: Different prayer flags, Tibetan flags, etc.
  • Handicrafts & Local Specialties: Pahadi Namak, Pickles, Ragi Flour, Pahadi Pulses, Small wooden crafts, Prayer beads.


Activities:

  • Trekking to Tungnath Temple (stone path, forested zones, possible rhododendron sections)
  • Ascend to Chandrashila Summit for panoramic views (sunrise if feasible)
  • Photography, capturing mountain peaks: Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome
  • Birdwatching on route/forest areas (look for Himalayan birds)
  • Evenings: campfire, stargazing.

Day 3

Chopta – Sari Village (12Km/ 30mins) - Sari Village – Deoriatal Lake (2.5km) - Deoriatal Lake – Dehradun

Post breakfast, explore Chopta Meadows with panoramic views of Kedarnath & Chaukhamba peaks. Drive towards Sari Village and begin a short trek to Deoriatal lake. Spend some leisure time at the lake for photography & birdwatching. Later proceed drive towards Dehradun via Devprayag. After dropping off at your destination, this tour will end with happy memories. (Breakfast included)


Experiences:

Food: On your 3rd day in Chopta, to wrap-up your amazing experience of exploring the Garhwali Cuisine, have Local Breads, Chutneys, Baadi, Tea/ Coffee in your breakfast. For lunch Try batatey kakdi (boiled potato with spices) or a spicy Bhaat Dal at local restaurants, en-routed.

 

Activities:

  • Trek to Deoriatal Lake (2-3 km approx) – enjoy lake view, reflection of peaks, photography
  • Explore Sari Village: meet locals, see village life, local architecture, forest trails
  • Relax by the lake; possibly camp or have picnic
  • In the forests / rhododendron zones: birdwatching, flora identification
  • If time allows: small side hikes; sunset / sunrise photography from spots overlooking Deoriatal
  • Scenic drive to Dehradun via Rudraprayag.
